Winners of Health Research Grant 2019

launched early this year to promote health research and research-driven health policies in Cameroon. From the many applications received, ten (10) highly skilled and motivated young researchers, below 40, have been selected for this pilot grant program. These individuals have demonstrated the commitment and know-how to grow as a health researcher in Cameroon. 

It is very refreshing to see the dedication and drive in these young researchers and we hope that this pilot research program will grow in the coming years to provide greater opportunities for research in the country noted Dr. Denis Foretia, Co-Chair of the Denis & Lenora Foretia Foundation.

Find below, in alphabetical order the recipients of the Pilot Health Research Grant.

Berienis Muki

Berienis Muki

Berienis Muki  is currently pursuing a Master’s in Public Health, University of Buea, Cameroon. Worked as a Medical Laboratory Scientist at the St Albert the Great Medical Center, Bomaka, Buea.

Her research proposal is on:

Assessing the adherence to the national diagnostic and treatment guidelines of malaria by health care providers in Fako division. 

Achangwa Chiara

Achangwa Chiara

Achangwa Chiara is holder of an M.Sc. in Epidemiology and Control of Infectious Diseases from the University of Buea, Cameroon.

Her research proposal is on:

the Linkage, retention and adherence to antiretroviral therapy in HIV-positive children in the South region of Cameroon.

Collins Mbuh Nkum

Collins Buh Nkum

Buh Nkum Collins is currently pursuing a Masters Degree in Clinical Biology at the University of Ngaoundere, Cameroon.

His research proposal is on:

The Epidemiology of Human Respiratory Syncytial Virus among children of under 5 years with acute respiratory tract infection in the Region of Adamawa Cameroon.

Charly Feutseu

Charly Feutseu

Charly Feutseu is a holder of a Master of Science (MSc) in Biochemistry; Option: Biotechnology and Development from the University of Yaoundé 1, Cameroon. He is a research assistant at the Laboratory for Molecular Medicine and Metabolism, Biotechnology Center, University of Yaoundé 1.

His research proposal is on the 

Assessment of the association between type 2 diabetes mellitus and hepatitis C virus infection in a Cameroonian population.

E. Fonkem

Efuetlefac Fonkem

Efuetlefac Fonkem is currently pursing an MSc in Epidemiology and Control of Infectious Diseases, University of Buea, Cameroon. Currently volunteering in Muyuka, teaching children who have been affected by the Anglophone crisis and are not going to school.

Her research proposal is on:

The Linkage and retention to antiretroviral therapy in HIV positive adults in a crisis affected zone; a three year retrospective cohort study (2016-2019) in the Kumba Health District.

Hilda Tonge Ekwoge

Hilda Tonge Ekwoge

Hilda Tonge Ekwoge holds a degree in Industrial Pharmacy from the Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, University of Yaounde I, Cameroon. She founded the HILPharma organisation to address issues regarding drug safety and substance abuse in our communities.

Her research proposal is on:

Determining the prevalence and risk factors for substance abuse among secondary school students in Cameroon.

Dr. Walinjom Joshua

Dr. Joshua Walinjom

Dr Walinjom Joshua Njimbuc is a resident doctor of Cardiology at the faculty of medicine and Biomedical sciences, University of Yaoundé 1.

His research proposal is on:

The Prevalence of left atrial strain in newly diagnosed hypertensive patients. Assessed by novel 2-dimensional speckle tracking.

JAMIN GHANGHA

Jamin Ghangha

Ghangha Jamin Ghangha is currently pursing a  Masters of Public Health, in the University of Buea. He worked as a Biomedical Scientist and psychosocial/Mental health counselor at the Babungo Integrated Mental Health Care (BIMEHC) For Humanity.

His research proposal is:

To investigate the perceptions and challenges faced by health care providers in the management of mental health disorders in the Buea Health District, South West region, Cameroon.

Karlz Rexmontine Urbanus

Karlz Rexmontine Urbanus

Karlz Rexmontine Urbanus  holds an MSc. in Epidemiology and Control of Infectious Diseases from the University of Buea. He is the manager of Zion Medical Solutions Ltd Buea; supplying Medical devices, Laboratory Reagents, Health Products and Services.

His research proposal is on:

The Determination of the Susceptibility Profile of Salmonella to the Fluoroquinolones and Assessment of Factors Associated to Its Resistance among Suspected Cases of Salmonella Infection in the Buea Health District  

Victorine Ngachangong

Ngachangong Victorine Mulur is a clinical and academic nurse with 8 years of clinical and academic experience; a PhD student in Public Health, University of Buea, Cameroon; and a part-time lecturer (Department of Nursing/Midwifery) in some state universities across the country.

Her research proposal is on:

Male involvement in the prevention of mother to child of hiv in the bamenda health district.
