DESCRIPTION:CONCEPT NOTES – SBEC 2019 Forum on the Theme :\n“HARMONIZATION OF THE ENTREPRENEURSHIP ECOSYSTEM IN CAMEROON FOR SUSTAINABLE GROWTH”.   \nBACKGROUND:\n In the Cameroon economy\, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are regarded as vectors for job and wealth creation. According to statistics from the Ministry of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises\, Social Economy and Handicrafts\, there are more than 400\,000 companies in the informal sector and out of these\, 99% are SMEs. This dynamic presence helps generate growth and redistribute wealth in society. Their important role in reducing poverty in Cameroon is also gaining recognition. Small and Medium Size Enterprises (SMEs) contribute around 36% of Cameroon’s GDP\, make-up over 90% of businesses in Cameroon\, and employ above 60% of the population. Notwithstanding\, evident realities indicate that enormous potentials inherent in this sector are unfortunately not fully harnessed – especially given that more than 70% of SMEs still operate informally.\n    However\, the incubation and capacity building process of existing and potential entrepreneurs requires an enabling environment that provides sufficient quantities and qualities of physical\, financial\, human\, information and relationship resources. The business environment in Cameroon is good but the lack of resource harmonization in the Cameroon Entrepreneurship sphere is considered to be among the main causes of short-run business failure and poor competitive capacity. SMEs in Cameroon face significant challenges in terms of Managerial skills\, lack of capital\, networking and lack of dedicated agencies to assist the existing and potential entrepreneurs. The Agency and Bank for the Promotion SMEs in Cameroon are yet to produce the expected results. The incubation process\,   growth\, and sustainability of most entrepreneurs in Cameroon can be greatly improved through  networking especially in business management and entrepreneurship skills. The first complain of every entrepreneur in Cameroon center around lack of capital while the rest of the component needs follow.\n  Taxation is not a hindrance to Entrepreneurship development in Cameroon per say. Taxes are paid when value chains are created\, No business no taxation.  Notwithstanding\, the knowledge of taxation and registration of business cannot be underrated. Cameroon is an environment that has plenty of resources but is deficient in terms of organization\, resource access\, and stakeholder behavior constitutes an additional challenge for entrepreneurs in Cameroon. In most cases\, they lack access to information despite the existence of the internet and relevant media plat forms.  Moreover\, Cameroon has enormous Human Resources\, Capital\, big market outlets\, the death rates of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises remain high in Cameroon.
